Structure Type: The proposed building is a two-storey structure with an additional loft space.
The structural system comprises a reinforced concrete strip footing foundation, supporting a beam and block ground floor construction. Above the ground floor, the primary load-bearing structure consists of a steel frame, which provides the main vertical and lateral stability for the building. The external walls are constructed as a traditional cavity wall system, tied to the steel frame to provide thermal performance and weather resistance.
These walls also contribute to the stability and enclosure of the building. The first floor and loft levels are formed using timber floor joists, spanning between the steel frame members and external walls. The timber floors are designed to provide a lightweight, efficient structure while maintaining flexibility in layout. The roof structure is also timber, supported by the steel frame and cavity wall construction, ensuring stability and allowing for the inclusion of the loft accommodation. The roof covering will be specified to suit the architectural design (e.g., tiles or slates) with appropriate insulation and ventilation.
