Devonshire Square

The new opening (4 m x 4 m) in an existing composite steel-concrete deck slab to accommodate the installation of a new staircase connecting two floors. The modification includes partial removal of the slab and reinforcement with new steel framing to maintain the structural integrity of the floor system. A structural assessment has been carried out on the existing primary steel beams and their steel to-steel connections. The results confirm that the existing elements are adequate to support the revised loading scheme, including the new staircase installation. Cutting of the composite slab has been carried out in consideration of the metal decking rib orientation, in accordance with guidance in SCI P300.
